What Spotlot is

A record of what dealers advertise Australian cars at, observed repeatedly: asking prices, price changes, how long listings sit and when they leave the market, with statistics derived from those observations and public context data. Every figure carries the count it was derived from.

It is not advice. Nothing on Spotlot is financial, valuation or purchasing advice, and no figure is a guarantee of what a car is worth, will sell for, or should be bought for. Where the evidence is thin the site says so, and where it is absent the site refuses to answer rather than guess. You make your own decisions.

Accuracy. We work hard at it and publish our own mistakes, but observations of other people’s websites can be wrong, late or incomplete, and we make no warranty that any figure is accurate or complete.

Using it

One person, one account. Keep your sign-in to yourself. You are responsible for what is done with it.

Fair use. Use the site as a person reading it. Do not scrape it, bulk-export it, resell it, or run automated traffic against it; the API exists for building on the data and has its own keys and limits.

Registration lookups are metered because each new plate costs us money; the allowance is stated on the form. Use them for cars you have a legitimate reason to look up.

Dealer access to a yard’s own position is granted by a reviewed request and can be revoked if the claim behind it turns out to be untrue.

We may close an account that breaks these terms. You may delete yours at any time from your account page.

Free, and staying free

Spotlot is funded by donations, not by the people using it. There is no paid tier, no paywall, no advertising, and the data is not for sale. There is no intention to change that.

A donation is a voluntary gift. It buys nothing, creates no entitlement, and is not refundable. The service is the same whether or not anyone ever donates.

The rest

Liability. To the extent the law allows, Spotlot is not liable for any loss arising from use of, or reliance on, the site or its figures. Nothing here excludes rights that cannot be excluded under Australian law.

Privacy. What we hold about an account, and how to have it deleted, is on the privacy page.

Changes. When these terms change, this page changes and the date above moves. Continuing to use the site after a change is acceptance of it.

Law. These terms are governed by the law of Western Australia.
